What you need

  • The configurator as an iframe on your site
  • A Google Tag Manager container on that same page

When the configurator sits on your site as an iframe, it sends an event to your page at every step. The tracking script pushes those events to the dataLayer, so Google Tag Manager can pass them on to Google Ads, GA4 and Microsoft Ads, with the value of the enquiry and a transaction ID.

Adding the tracking script

Put this line directly below the iframe. The standard iframe code already includes it.

HTML
<script src="https://meetpiloot.nl/embed/mp-tracking.js"></script>

The script does two things. It passes configurator events on to the dataLayer. And it reads the UTM parameters and click IDs (gclid, gbraid, wbraid, msclkid, fbclid, ttclid) from your page's address and passes them to the configurator. That way every lead arrives with the right source, with no extra setup.

Importing the ready-made GTM container

We have prepared a container with triggers and tags for GA4 (generate_lead), a Google Ads conversion and Microsoft Ads (UET).

Download the GTM container

  1. Open Google Tag Manager and go to Admin.

    Choose AdminImport Container.

  2. Choose the downloaded file and merge it with your existing container.

Choose "Merge" and "Rename conflicting tags", so none of your existing tags are lost.

  3. Fill in your own IDs.

Open the variables that start with "MP -" and fill in your GA4 measurement ID, your Google Ads conversion ID and label, and your Microsoft UET tag ID. Leave a variable empty if you do not use that platform, and pause the matching tag.

  4. Test in preview mode and publish.

Creating your own trigger

If you prefer to work with your own tags, create a Custom Event trigger in GTM for meetpiloot_lead_submitted and attach it to your conversion tag. Use the fields mp_value, mp_currency and mp_transaction_id as the conversion value, currency and transaction ID. All fields are listed in events and dataLayer fields.

Check that it works

Test the setup with the tracking test page, or open your own page in GTM preview mode and send a test enquiry. You should see meetpiloot_lead_submitted come through with a value.
